.The introduction of spring vents in place of chimney vents has created new challenges for installation and cleaning. 

There are several manufacturers of spring vents.  Glebus produce a type where the valve is separate from the housing.  The housing is installed into the mold and the valve is popped into the housing afterward.  This allows the valve to be removed for cleaning or replaced if damaged.  Other manufactures crimp the valve into place so that the valve cannot be removed from the housing.

• Kay-Zee Inc. manufacture a knockout tool to remove the valve from the Glebus housing, if that is the preferred method of cleaning.

• Most mold manufacturers and cleaning facilities use an ultrasonic tool, originally designed for cleaning teeth, to loosen the residue from the spring vent assembly.  Kay-Zee Inc. designed a tip to fit the majority of the ultrasonic tools.

• Installation of the Glebus spring vent housing is time consuming due to the size of the housings and the quantity used in some tread rings.  Kay-Zee Inc. produce a tool to install the housing into the mold.
